Local Adventures; The Griffith Observatory

On Monday night Adrian's friend Connor came to visit us from VA, so on Tuesday we took him to Los Angeles! This was his first time taking a flight and also his first time in California so we thought this was a good place to start. First we visited The Griffith Observatory.

For those of you who don't know, the land that The Griffith Observatory sits on (Mount Hollywood) was donated to the city by Griffith J. Griffith in 1896 to build a park to better the city of Los Angeles. After his experience using the 60-inch telescope at Mount Wilson (the largest at the time) in 1904 he believed that science should me more accessible to the public so he donated the money to have the observatory built.

Even if you're not that interested in science the observatory is a beautiful place to visit (I took nearly 100 pictures - oops). The view of Los Angeles is spectacular, especially at night. If you're in the area and looking for something free and/or educational to do I definitely recommend it, and if you're a Star Trek fan there's the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater to check out!
